Our History

Dr. Bruce C. HemmingMicrobe Inotech Laboratories, Inc. was founded in 1991. Dr. Bruce C. Hemming started the company after ten years of progressively advanced experience at Monsanto Company.  He is an accomplished science and business professional with over 30 years of real-world experience in microbiology and its practical applications relating to product quality.  His career included research and development in plant pathology and advanced genetics. One of the major objectives of Microbe Inotech Laboratories, which led to the name of the company, was to provide service which merged innovation and technology. Missouri Biotechnology Association

Dr. Hemming wanted to provide a service which would be able to use his talents and experience and those of his associates in solving problems involving microbial detection, identification and enumeration. This was to be a service laboratory with the ability to design and implement new methods. This was to be a service laboratory that professionals could come to, ask "Can we get this done?" and find an affirmative answer. The MiL is now celebrating nearly two decades of providing innovative solutions for manufacturers, environmental engineers, other scientists with problems involving microorganisms. Other key members thru the years have had experience in technical positions at major companies including Monsanto, Amgen, Mallinckrodt, and Lonza Biopharmaceutical. We were a founding member of the Missouri Biotechnology Association and remain active in this organization.

Microbe Inotech has taken the knowledge and experience of its key people and developed new methods in areas of environmental bioremediation, and analysis of materials in pharmaceuticals, foods and other bio-reactive materials.

The MiL has consulted on major projects with many companies within and without the United States.  BioBelt

Our clients list includes many of the top 100 environmental engineering companies involved in major commercial and government bioremediation projects, major chemical and oil companies, other commercial, academic and government laboratories, microbial culture manufacturers and smaller remediation companies involved with leaking UST removals and remediation. We continue to service the needs of many food companies as well as other manufacturers in the chemical, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical business. We have served as expert witnesses in providing depositions, with resolutions prior to trial or testimony in federal courts involving cases with a microbiological component.

The MiL performs proprietary microbial kinetic and endpoint assays. Our microbial databases contain profiles of over 3,000 species of microbes (including extensive E. coli 0157:H7 and yeast identification databases).

We do microbial diagnostics research, have product development capabilities, and specialized skills in using automated, microbial characterization and identification tools and integrating results from combined Gas Chromatography Fatty Acid Methyl Ester (GC-FAME), RiboPrinterTM Molecular Typing, and BiologTM microplate reader instruments. We were selected (1996) by DuPont's QualiconTM subsidiary as one of their three, worldwide reference laboratories to assist in building and marketing their microbial, genetic characterizing, RiboPrinter'sTM databases and instruments. We offer real-time quantitative PCR detection and enumeration of bacteria and fungi.

We are registered with the USDA and CDC as a Select Agent Laboratory capable of conducting research on the Anthrax causal agent, Bacillus anthracis.

The MiL is able to use the significant experience of its key members and state of the art equipment to solve your problems involving microbial organisms and by-products.
